Perranuthnoe Church Room
Summary of News
Gambia Talk & Coffee Morning this Saturday 28th May. Please bring any unwanted items for a carboot sale in aid of charitable projects in the Gambia. (Yvonne Groves)
Yoga is going well. There are 3 places available in the normal yoga group and up to 6 spaces available in the chair-based yoga class. Both held on Friday mornings. (Mira Love)
Perran Voices and Perran Art groups would both welcome some new members.
Cleaning rota is working well. A few more cleaning volunteers are needed to cover the Autumn months this year. (David Ellis)
Bookings have been very good with only 6 days unused in the past 2 months. Fees are £12.50 / session (am / pm / eve) or £6 for a one hour booking. (John Purchas).
People with hearing difficulties often won’t ask for help so users of the room are encouraged to use the hearing loop microphone for any public events where there might be people with hearing aids present. It was explained that the mic does not amplify the voice, it merely channels it through a radio frequency that hearing aids can pick up. (Frank Tanner)
We have been missing one of the small folding tables for a while. Could people please check their garages etc. (Michael Ball)
Does anyone know who the blue leaflet stand in the alcove belongs to?
Please make sure that no-one drills any holes in the walls as it would ruin the integrity of the damp-proofing. Also, the light switches need to be dimmed fully before being pressed off. If they are pressed on without being dimmed, it reduces the life of the bulbs, thank you. (David Grant)

Community Noticeboard
There is now a very shiny steel community noticeboard on the outside of the Church Room to advertise any village events (not for business ad's). Group leaders are encouraged to do A5 laminated posters so as to maximise the space. Magnets for the posters are provided, but a bit of bluetack might be a good idea too!

Perran Voices
Perran Voices is a friendly local singing group which meets fortnightly (1-3pm) in Perranuthnoe. We sing beautiful, easy-to-learn songs from around the world (and closer to home), for relaxation and the joy of singing in harmony. There is no pressure to perform, or attend every session.
All ages and voices are most welcome. We've had 3 lovely sessions so far and sung songs as varied as 'Dem Bones', an Orthodox version of 'Kyrie Eleison', a 3-part arrangement of 'The Nightingale, 'Back of the Bus' (a song from the American Civil right movement) and a West African lullaby ...
Forthcoming dates are as follows (all 1-3pm):
- Thursday 26th May (then we swap to Tuesdays...)
- Tuesday 7th June
- Tuesday 21st June
- Tuesday 5th July
- Tuesday 19th July
We meet in the newly refurbished 'Church Room' community centre in Perranunthoe.
£3.50 per session. If you would like to come and see if it's 'your thing' please let me know by ringing 01736 763766 or emailing pipjanewright@gmail.com

Yvonne's Gambian Holidays!
In January 2009 Yvonne Groves, along with a friend, went on a (cheap) holiday to the Gambia.
She fully expected to have an interesting visit, but was not prepared to be bowled over by the love, happiness and generosity of the Gambian people.
She returned again this year and met up with the same families and tried to understand how they managed their lives. Yvonne sponsors the education of a little girl called Phlomen as well as helping 3 other families.
If you would like to hear a personal account and see images of Yvonne’s “Gambian holidays” please come along to the Coffee morning in Perranuthnoe’s Church Room on Saturday 28th May 10am – 12.30pm.

Short film of the Street Party by Ben Mankin
Ben Mankin has made a short film of Perranuthnoes Royal Wedding Street Party which can be viewed here: http://vimeo.com/23342039
(People may want to make sure 'HD' is off - ie greyed out, not blue - in the control bar at the bottom of the film screen. If it is blue, it takes for ever to download....)
He has entered it in to The Times 'Smile' competition - the challenge was to 'make us smile'. This is the link to some info about the competition. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/ public/smile/article3006157. ece#tab-4
Good luck Ben and thank you for sharing

Art Club – next session 11th May 7-9pm
For those who want to, we will be working on the pieces cut from the Big Art we made last time.
If you do not want to do this, I would suggest you bring something you would like to do (still life, working from sketches, other) or give me a buzz beforehand and I can try to make some plans...
