Foraging Talk, Walk and Lunch

On Saturday 26th March, Emma Ball (Plant Specialist) will be offering a Foraging Talk, Walk and Lunch (based on Foraged products). Starting in Perranuthnoe Church Room at 10am for a short Introductory Talk, then taking a Foraging Walk in the Perranuthnoe area ending back in the Church Room where a prepared lunch will be served at about 12.30pm.

Cost : £12.50 per person.

Church Room Opening - Steel Ramp

I understand that there has been some critisism of a steel ramp that Valerie and I lent to the organisers for use at the opening.

The ramp in question is wheelchair ramp and should ONLY have been used when wheelchairs needed to enter or leave the Churchroom. It was not meant for use as a general access ramp and SHOULD NOT have been left in place for the duration of the opening ceremony. Instructions for its use were given to the organisers on the day, but were ignored.

Valerie and I apologise to those people who walked on the ramp and felt a little unsteady, but I repeat, this ramp was loaned by us in good faith for the use of WHEELCHAIRS ONLYand not for general access.

Perran Voices - Taster Session

Art Club - Coming Soon!

Date and time to be confirmed, but the art club will probably take place on a Wednesday evening, every two or three weeks. The content of each session will be decided by those taking part, but to begin with we will concentrate on drawing.

If you are interested in taking part, please contact Pippa Young through the Village Website Contact page (just put Art Club in the meassgae box)

For the first session we are just going to launch in and do something to get us started. I will set up a still life, but if there is something you would like to draw, bring it along. I would suggest that we concentrate on black and white and drawing at this stage, so bring a medium of your choice along: pencils (2B – 6B), chalks, charcoal, graphite; some cartridge paper (At least A3 size - A4 is a bit small to unleash your inner Picasso...) and a drawing board or piece of plywood/mdf that is big enough to support your paper.

You may also need some masking tape, a rubber and/or putty rubber.

Police Appeal

Police in the Devon and Cornwall area are seeking a 24 year-old man who is wanted in connection with false representation.

The man is thought to be part of an organised travelling gang who approach vulnerable people in their homes offering repair work.

They then charge excessive bills and fail to carry out the work agreed. The group are thought to travel in a white Ford Transit van across the whole of the South West region and call themselves “Southwest Landscapes”.

Pink Day

The PINK DAY - Coffee morning & Posh Cakes held in the Church Room on Saturday 12th Feb in aid of Royal Cornwall's Breast Care Unit, the Mermaid Centre, Truro was a great success.

The sun shone (most of the time !) and well over a 100 people supported the event which raised an amazing £665.

A huge thank you to the organisers (Andrea & Gill) and everyone who supported this worthy cause and made it such a success.

Textile Workshops - Cornish Wools

Cornish Wools now holds regular textile workshops in the newly refurbished Church Room. If you are interested in attending one of the workshops and would like more details please telephone 01736 711899.  Alternatively sign up to their newsletter and you will be kept informed as more workshops are planned and organised.

• Monday 28th March – Hooked rugs and Proddy mats for Beginners, learn the art of rug hooking. Tutor Diane Cox - £25 per person

• Monday 4th April – Crochet, Staying Hooked, Flowers & Patterns – how to follow patterns, make your own and increase your stitch library. Tutor: Pauline Thomas £25 per person

• Monday 11th April – Knitting, Cables & Lace, develop your stitch skills, knit squares and make a patchwork cushion cover. Tutor: Chris Boulton £25 per person

• Monday 18th April – The Felting Pot – advanced techniques, make felted jewellery and learn about knitted, needle and shibori. Tutor: Pauline Thomas £25 per person

• Wednesday 4th May – Hooked Rugs, Proddy Mats & learn how to make a Teacosy. Tutor Diane Cox £25 per person

• Monday 9th May – Master the Art of Handspinning, an introduction to fibre, working through the art of using carders, the Drop Spindle and the Spinning Wheel. Learn how to ply and how to make a two ply yarn. Tutor: Amanda Hannaford. £50 per person

• Monday 16th May – Knitting, an introduction to Fairisle & Intarsia, improve your knitting skills and learn how to read patterns and charts. Tutor: Chris Boulton £25 per person

Royal Wedding - Street Party Meeting

Saturday 19th February at 4.00 pm

Hi Folks,

I thought it might be a good idea to hold a street party in the village to celebrate the Royal Wedding!! I have spoken to a few people and they seem to agree!! So the next step would seem to be to hold a meeting to discuss further.

So, if you are interested and can spare an hour on Saturday 19th February at 4.00 pm in the churchroom, it would be great to see you!
