Perranuthnoe Covid-19 Village Updates

We are all going through a really difficult time at the moment. Stuck indoors, no work, no money, deadly virus outside! It's hard to keep from feeling anxious. We are all washing our hands, distancing ourselves from others and trying to keep healthy. While we are busy doing all that it's easy to neglect the mind. Don't forget, it needs looking after too.

While our desire to be informed is good we are no good to ourselves or anyone else if we are pouring from an empty cup. If following the news is making you anxious, switch off for a while. Limit yourself to one or two checks per day, and not just before bed!

Make time for soothing activities to help you relax and heal. Things that you enjoy doing, or have done in the past worked well for you before they are likely to be the most helpful to you now.

It's OK to smile in fact it is more than OK. Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, which are natural painkillers, and serotonin. These neurotransmitters make us feel good from head to toe. Not only do these natural chemicals elevate your mood, but they also relax your body and reduce physical pain. So go ahead and SMILE 😄

Some stockpiling suggestions:

Kindness
Empathy
Support
Encouragement
Compassion
Positivity
Love

Stay home. Stay safe. Save Lives. Smile 😄

Clap For Our Carers

Today, March 26 at 8pm, everyone is invited to applaud those looking after our loved ones from their windows, doorsteps or balconies.

Cornwall Councillor: Cllr. Sue Nicholls

Subject: Dogs on leads

We’ve had complaints about dogs ‘running wild’ and people ending up in closer contact with the dog owner than they want. So we’re putting the following out on Social Media, and looking into the possibility of putting some signs up in ‘hot spots’.

To help observe social distancing, we are strongly advising dog walkers to keep their dogs on leads when in public areas or on beaches. Should one dog go up to another, or towards other people, and the owner has to retrieve it there is a risk of closer contact than is safe. Please observe this simple rule to help prevent the spread of Covid 19.

Penzance Police

Essential journey?
Driving to exercise at another location is NOT an essential journey! Yesterday we stopped and checked over 150 vehicles in the Penzance, Hayle and St Ives area. Drivers were asked if their journey was essential. We will continue to carry out these checks because, like you, we want to keep Cornwall safe. Please share and let’s keep travel to an absolute minimum.

Marazion Surgery

We have been overwhelmed with prescription requests recently. We understand that people are worried but please do not stock pile medication, or indeed request it when you do not need it. We are not able to issue more than a month supply of medication at one time.

PLEASE register for our online service to request medications as this is the most efficient way for staff at this very busy time. The application form and further information can be found on our website by clicking a link to 'The Waiting Room'. The dispensary telephone line is very busy so please avoid using this unless absolutely necessary.

Link to information on online services - https://www.marazionsurgery.com/prescriptions1.aspx?t=4

Link to the application form for online services - https://www.marazionsurgery.com/website/L82047/files/TWR%20Application%20Form.pdf?fbclid=IwAR2oHH_zI1HXWF8yoXBN336ciBzEj85H9uGoLbsB_jDFbPDlBL3E19HSiBM

Requests for medication can be dropped at the surgery without entering the building. There is a post box by the side door to the right of the building or just inside the surgery main doors.

We are operating our dispensary through the window straight into the car park, to avoid people having to enter the surgery itself and to keep risks to a minimum.

Perranuthnoe Covid-19 Village Updates

Thought it would be nice to share with you all a lovely message from Yvonne:

Hi there, a few thoughts for today, we are so fortunate to live in such a wonderful community.

The Perran Tree seems to be working well, with lots of help being offered and used.

I feel it is so important to support everybody, especially people who will, no doubt, be under extreme stress, so I guess we should be even more tolerant than usual.

I understand that the police have been stopping drivers on the Marazion bypass and today visited the village to keep their eyes on things for us.

If we handle this situation with love and tolerance we will all come through this dreadful situation with a village even more connected than before.

My love to you all. Yvonne 710070.  Anybody needing a chat - ring me.

Stay home. Stay safe. Save Lives.

A message from Newquay Police:

The Victoria Inn

The show must go on!

Thank you all so much for your patience. What started life as a simple idea to help the village has had a few logistical spanner’s thrown into the mix this past week!

We have now made a plan that shouldn’t change (unless the government make calls that squash our pop up shop totally). We want to help as much as we can, but we have to do so it a sensible way. By this we mean not ordering loads of produce in and hoping it all sells. We also have to exercise great caution, protecting ourselves and you, the customers. We also have limited staff volunteering to run the shop... thanks Olli & Sophie! The shop will be open (initially) Wednesdays and Saturdays.

So here’s our plan!

PRE ORDER YOUR SUPPLIES

We request you pre order the supplies you would like. This can be done via facebook messenger or email. Your pre order must be with us before 3pm on Tuesday or Friday and can be collected between 11am & 1pm on Wednesday or Saturday.

DELIVERY

Although we urge people to try and collect you pre orders from us at the Victoria inn so payment is as ‘risk free’ as possible, we can offer delivery to those who really need it. This will be cash on collection and we ask the correct amount of money is put in an envelope or something similar and left in the in agreed drop off/pick up point.

PAYMENT

We strongly encourage cashless payment. Card payments can be made at a safe distance on collection. Cash will only be accepted as a last resort and we really don’t want to be collecting cash for obvious reasons!

REQUESTS

We can source other things you may want/need too within reason. Please drop us a message with your pre order and we’ll see what we can do!

GIVE SOMETHING BACK

The Victoria Inn and the community it serves is family as far as we’re concerned! We don’t expect anything in return for our services and wish everyone to stay safe and healthy! We do however feel strongly about supporting the NHS. They are well and truly up to their eyeballs working night and day through this madness and their heroism seems to be constantly brushed under the carpet...

So, let’s give something back to the unsung heroes of this country. Click the link at the bottom of the page to donate 🙂

We hope this all makes sense and thank you for baring with us.

For pre orders or and questions please email jamie@victoriainn-Penzance.co.uk or message us on our Facebook page.

Stay safe folks & stay classy

Team Vic

Perranuthnoe Covid-19 Village Updates

So here we are, the UK is on a lockdown. Following last nights address by Boris we all now find ourselves having to follow stricter rules. A lot of us were doing this anyway but many more were not. Let us hope this latest development does the trick and that people abide by it to slow and stop the spread of this virus as much as possible. For the sake of our NHS as well as our own and loved ones lives.

Many, many people are, or will suffer financially as businesses close and jobs are lost. This is an awful and very worrying time for everyone. We must stay strong, know that we are all in it together and be there for each other with love and understanding albeit from a distance. Look out for your neighbours, your friends, your family and loved ones. Keep in telephone and or digital contact as much as possible.

Remember, the virus doesn't move, people move it. We stop moving, the virus stops moving, the virus dies. It's that simple. We got this 💪😎

On the brighter side of things, we can now all officially take an afternoon nap! 😄

Stay home. Stay safe.

Here are today's updates:

Ramblers And Dog Walkers Please Take Note

Pirate FM

A doctor working in the emergency department at Treliske is urging any tourists in Cornwall to self-isolate amid the coronavirus outbreak.

For those tourists who have already arrived in Cornwall, Dr Lucy Obolensky is urging them to self-isolate for seven days, saying she fears Cornwall's health services will not be able to cope in the coming days.

She says visitors should not go to the shops or go for a walk, but to stay inside and have any provisions delivered instead.

Dr Lucy Obolensky, Treliske Emergency Department

Cornwall Council

Following the announcement this morning regarding the closure of Household Waste and Recycling Centres in Cornwall, residents are urged to act responsibly and reminded not to dump waste or recycling outside the gates, as this constitutes fly tipping which carries serious penalties.

The Cabin Beach Cafe

The Cabin has now officially closed.

The Victoria Inn price list for their pop-up shop.

Cornish Cars

It is with huge regret that we are having to withdraw our offer made last week to collect things for people who are self isolating as our household now falls into that category. We are very sorry to do this but we are not prepared to chance it and put others at risk. Stay safe everybody.

Fawkes Feeds and Livery

Fawkes will be remaining OPEN for the purchase of all your animal and pet feeds.

If possible phone ahead to order and pay for your products (01736-719170) give us your car registration details.

If this is not possible, come into the car park but do not get out of your vehicle. We will come to you.

We will load your purchase for you.

Stay in your vehicle, this is as much for your protection as it is for us.

National Trust car parks will be closed by the end of Tuesday 24 March in a further attempt to help restrict the spread of coronavirus and to encourage the public to stay local and observe social distancing.

The move comes as the Trust ramps up its efforts to help the nation fight the spread of the virus, which has already seen it temporarily close its houses, shops, cafes, parks and gardens.

Perranuthnoe Covid-19 Help And Support

Hope you are all keeping yourselves safe and well. Here are today's updates:

Marazion Surgery

* IMPORTANT - Please share *

There appears to be a post circulating on social media in regard to contacting your GP for an ‘emergency pack or rescue pack’ if you suffer with either COPD or asthma, which contains antibiotics and steroids.

The post is inaccurate and dangerous. GP surgeries are not routinely offering these 'emergency packs'. If we do so, the system will collapse and we would be unable to cope with the level of demand it would create. We will run out of essential medication for those who truly need it.

Please could patients request their regular medication as normal.

If people are well, they must not request 'emergency/rescue packs'.

If unwell, contact your surgery to receive a telephone ring back from a GP who can make a clinical decision as to whether these treatments are appropriate.

If you think you are showing signs and symptoms of coronavirus (raised temperature and/or a new continuous cough) please self-isolate, and contact NHS 111 online.

Please help us keep the NHS going - don’t share misinformation.

Thank you - Marazion Surgery Team

Update From The Peppercorn Cafe

The Peppercorn Cafe
After thinking long and hard we have decided that we will close the café fully from Monday 23rd March until the current crisis has passed.

We have a social responsibility and the health and well-being of our customers, team and the wider community is of paramount importance to us. In order to assist everyone in implementing social distancing we have decided that it would be best to close and not offer take-away.

We are investigating whether we can offer some of our popular daily specials as frozen meals to be reheated and enjoyed at home and will update further on this in the coming days.

We would like to thank all our wonderful friends for all your support and custom over the past few weeks.

Stay safe and healthy and we look forward to welcoming you back into the Peppercorn once this has passed.

With much love Suzi, Mike & Team Peppercorn xxx

Perranuthnoe Covid-19 Help And Support

Well what a strange and scary time this is! The world as we know it has changed and we can no longer go about our daily lives as we used too.

Everyone needs to know what is going on and where they can get help and support from locally if they need it. There have been lots of post and information popping up on Facebook but not everyone has Facebook. For that reason the village website will now be updated as and when new information becomes available.

The updates will be posted here on the Village News Page as well as going out via Facebook, Twitter and email to those that subscribe to the newsletter. The newsletter sends daily at 6PM if new posts have been added. If you would like to receive email updates you can sign up by clicking here.

Now on with a roundup of the news so far. (For those that do have Facebook a link to the relevant pages has been provided below each offer.)

If you are local please DO NOT travel to other parts of Cornwall. Stay local to your area. Stay Home. Stay safe. Social distance. Social distance. Social distance.

Accommodation

The accommodation page of the village website has been taken down for the time being.
We DO NOT want to encourage visitors to our county and village. We need to keep people safe and stop the spread of the virus. It's becoming clear that people are just not listening and some are still planning to come to Cornwall. If you own any form of accommodation in Perranuthnoe or Cornwall please cancel your bookings and close your accommodation for the time being. It's completely understandable that people need to make a living but this is for the greater good. These are unprecedented times and we all need to do our bit. This is war although we can't see our enemy. Somethings are much more important than money. Your country needs you. The world needs you.

Help And Support

Telephone Tree
Yvonne is our main village point of contact - please call her if you wish to request help or if you can offer help to others. Ideally we would like everyone to provide Yvonne with their phone numbers so that we can set up a "telephone tree". We are especially keen to hear from anyone living alone or feeling vulnerable as well as those who are primary carers for someone else. Please don't knock on Yvonne's door as she is social distancing! 01736 710070.

Covid-19 mutual aid Perranuthnoe
A Covid-19 help page has been set up on Facebook giving current status of meals, prescriptions, banking, groceries, gardening supplies, helplines & other info.
https://www.facebook.com/Covid-19-mutual-aid-Perranuthnoe-111141627181186/

Cornish Cars
For anyone self isolating in the Goldsithney / Rosudgeon / Perranuthnoe area we are happy to collect prescriptions, orders that you have placed from local shops or take away food from the local cafes or pubs that are offering this option. There will be no charge for this service. Please do give either of us a call if we can help. Also if you know of anyone elderly or vulnerable that is not on Facebook please do pass on our details - Brian 07974 668506 or Fi 07986 667509
Please note we are no longer taking passengers.

Goldsithney Stores
In these uncertain times of Coronavirus Neil and Jo would like to assure all our customers that we are happy to make home deliveries
Call us on 01736 710539 to see how we can help
Please spread the word

The Victoria Inn
We're now going to offer a pop-up shop to the locals. Offering essentials, treats, wine and beer, logs and other things you may need. We will also continue to run our popular fish and chips takeaway on Monday evenings.

Obviously, we have never done this before so bare with us... give us feedback and help us help you!

We're in this together!

More info to follow.

New Frozen Meal Range:

Menu will be advertised on boards at the cabin and on this Facebook page. These meals are all freshly prepared by our chefs at the cabin and then frozen on the same day. You can order and collect at our takeaway hatch or phone your order in (01736711733) and then collect at our takeaway counter. Please pay by contactless or over the phone where possible to avoid cash handling.

Delivery Service:

Aimed specifically at our more vulnerable residents who live in the Perranuthnoe/Goldsithney area.

You can order and pay over the phone.

You can send someone to collect if you have someone that can do this for you.

They can pay by contactless or cash on collection if you can’t pay over the phone.

If no one can collect your order we can deliver it to you. Again you can pay over the phone or if you cant do this you can pay cash on delivery if absolutely necessary.

The cabin has a 5* food hygiene rating.

We are experienced at outside catering and takeaway services.

Our staff and customer safety is paramount to us and we assure you we are taking all extra measures as recommended by the government to keep us all safe in these very difficult times. Please call 01736711733 if you need any further information or assistance.

Best wishes and stay safe from all at the Cabin.
