Update on Superfast Cornwall - But Superslow Perranuthnoe?

We think - and hope- that there is good news for everyone who has posted on this site or has emailed us regarding 'Perranuthnoe superslow fibre broadband'.

On 21 October there were 2 BT Openreach vans in the village, with manhole covers being lifted. We spoke to the engineers, who were from the 'copper team' in St Austell and were very helpful. They had a 'job card' to investigate the copper/aluminium cable story and to replace any aluminium cable between Perran Cross and the cabinet opposite the pub. There is apparently a recent 100-pair copper cable (installed in 2013?), which connects most people in the village, and the engineers were uncertain about the extent of aluminium cable (the manholes had a lot of mud in them, with the aluminium cable possibly hidden). In addition, the cabinet box near the pub is in a bad state.

The team was back yesterday, this time with an additional job card to replace the box, which will be done by a contractor as the first step. The cable replacement will require traffic management (lights?) for a couple of days, and this is being organised. They then hope to replace the aluminium cable.

With the necessary BT authorisations and the ST Austell 'copper team' on the case it looks like we should see the work done in November - let's keep our fingers crossed! We will keep an eye out and post any news on action.

Question About BT Infinity

Hello from a new arrival in Perranuthnoe! Sally and I (plus Rosie our English setter cross) moved into St Pirans Way last week... quick question - our broadband was switched on today but it's only 1.8Mb. Has anybody tried BT Infinity? They predicted 2-4Mb so not sure it's worth the upgrade.

Have You Moved To BT Infinity

Would anyone in the village who has moved to BT Infinity or other fibre broadband product this year please contact me on mark.taylor@oryx-it.com

I am currently processing a high level test complaint through my provider Plusnet regarding the mis-selling of high data speeds. Plusnet have said that the more people who do the same, the more weight it will add to the case.

I am happy to assist anyone with their complaint and I would like to gauge exactly how many fibre customers there are in the area with the same issue.

Beware BT Infinity

As you are all probably aware BT Infinity is now available in  Perranuthnoe. This is just to let everyone know that all is not what it seems.

Although the 40mg speed offered by BT Infinity's fibre network is reaching the cabinet at the crossroads opposite the Dynasty as soon as it starts to travel through the village it is a completely different story. In the words of a BT engineer, the equipment in the village is out of the arc and not capable of the job.

The speed gradually decreases so much so that by the time it reaches us (The Old Chapel) it is only running at 12mb. The BT Infinity hub will not even connect at this speed as it is expecting at least 15mb.

Bt however still expect you to pay Infinity prices and are not offering any discounts.

If any of you have signed up for BT Infinity or any other service providers super fast broadband it would be great if you could let everyone know (via the comment box below) what speeds you are getting and whereabouts in the village you are so others can make an informed choice.
