Harvest Weekend Report
HARVEST WEEKEND
Earlier this month, on a damp Saturday morning, many came to the churchyard following the annual cut by Cornwall Council earlier in the week. Several people came along to see the churchyard, many with their rakes and wheelbarrows, raking and stacking the grass; others decorated the church with harvest flowers and produce. As the rain started around midday, we all went into church to enjoy a soup and ploughmans lunch.
The following day was our Harvest Festival service. Lots more produce was brought along and the church look beautiful.
All the produce was distributed in and around Penzance. First stop to the PeaT project where we took much needed food for the volunteers to cook for the Street Food Project. Then on to the Pengarth Drop In centre where we delivered more items for their lunches. On then to Breadline with items for their breakfasts followed by a visit to the Food Bank where we gave the cash which was donated for them to purchase their much much needed fresh items of eggs, milk, bread etc.
The Living Churchyard is now in it's second year. Many more wild grasses, flowers and wildlife have appeared. It is a wonderful place to walk around the many paths which are kept so neat, thanks to Susan Dodds, Ann and Peter Caswell and others than spend time working there.
Thank you to all who came along on the Harvest Weekend, working on the mammoth task of clearing away the grass. Many hands did make light(er) work. Thanks also to all who brought the harvest produce on Sunday and also to Tim Skewes for his generous contribution.

UPDATED: Iris and Mike Clelford
I now have all the information I need.
Thank you
Kay
I have been contacted by an ad agency in London, who are looking at using a story from two of our residents for a new exciting piece of work.
Iris and Mike Clelford were involved in a MCA rescue off the coast of Africa in 2008 after sending an email to Falmouth coastguard.
Does anyone know whether they still live in the village and would be interested?
Anyone with any information or indeed Iris and Mike themselves please contact me on 01736 710565 or via the comments below or email.
Many thanks
Kay

Local Band To Represent UK In USA
Local band Flats & Sharps who you may have seen playing at The Cabin, have been asked to represent the UK at the International Bluegrass Music Awards Showcase in the USA!
Only 30 artists have been chosen out of over 160 submissions from all over the world. It is a dream come true for them yet an expensive one.
Whilst the opportunity is amazing they still need to raise the funds in order to get there. So, on the 25th of August there is going to be an extra special gig at The Acorn in PZ where they will be auctioning all sorts of goodies, some kindly donated and some from themselves including a meal and private gig with the band, limited edition white label vinyl and much, much more.
Make room in your diaries and help make the dream a reality!
Lets help this hard working local band get to the USA and show them just how much talent there is in Cornwall, we're not just a pretty county!

DOGSITTING
Is there anyone in the village available or willing to do short term/short notice dogsitting? (Paid of course!) Over the next year or so, we think we will need to make a few last minute trips away - only for 2-4 days at a time, but we may not know until the day and therefore can't predict whether kennels will be available. Elderly, slightly scruffy, long-haired jack russell terrier, she likes company - It would be nice to know that she had someone local to look after her and give her the odd walk!

New Village Website Now Live
It's taken me a month and finally the new village website is up and running! We now have a fully responsive mobile first design. Put simply, mobile first is an approach to design for smaller screens first, as close to 50% of visitors to websites are using portable devices these days.
I have yet to do the blog pages, (Village News, Church News and History) but plan to do so over the next couple of weeks.
All of you that had adverts on the old site have had them re-vamped for this one. Be sure to check out your ad, make sure it's all correct and up to date and that you like it! If there is anything you would like changed or added please just let me know.
I have included all the businesses I know of, please don't shoot me if I have left you out, it wasn't on purpose. If you have a business and you would like it included just let me know.
In response to a couple of "you must be making a bomb out of that website" comments I have had, I can assure you all that I am not. In fact the website costs me money. I pay for the domain name and the hosting and do all the design work and running of it myself. There are some Google ads on the village news, history and church pages which I have received two payments of £60 for since 2009 and that's it.
Lastly, if anyone wants to contribute to the running of the website, whether it be financially or otherwise it would be gratefully accepted. Andrea does a great job helping me with Facebook, thank you Andrea. I have lots of information on shipwrecks that I just haven't had the time to get written up, plus I don't know one end of a ship from the other! Many people have contacted me with regards to family history so again, anyone willing to handle that side of things? None of it would involve any design work, just writing things up and maybe answering emails and replying to comments!?
Right, that's enough of me rambling on. Check the new site out, let me know what you think. As always, comments and suggestions more than welcome.
Thanks for reading

Perranuthnoes Twitter Handle And Website
Twitter Handle
You may or may not be aware that our twitter handle (@perranuthnoe) was taken by someone unconnected with the village so I had to settle for @perrantweets when I first set up a Twitter account for us. This made tagging or mentioning Perranuthnoe in Tweets difficult for people.
I have kept my eye on the 'other' account ever since, periodically checking in to see if it was being used.
A few weeks ago I decided to do something about it as the account hadn't been used since September 2014 and felt this was a fair amount of time to elapse. I wrote to Twitter asking them if I could claim the handle @perranuthnoe as our own as it was no longer in use.
I am now delighted to announce that Twitter agreed to transfer the name to us! The process is now complete and we can now be found at https://twitter.com/perranuthnoe
Website News
I am also in the process of redesigning our website, bringing it up to date with modern technology, making it mobile friendly, getting rid of out of date links etc.
Anyone with a business in the village who would like to be included please let me know.
Anyone with existing adverts on the site now is a good time to send me any updated images or wording although I will be checking your websites for newer images anyway.
As always, any comments or suggestions will be gratefully received. Please use the contact form on our website
I apologise for this taking so long for me to get around to, I lost my mojo after my dad died but I am pleased to say I have it back now. Watch this space!
Happy days :-)
Kay

Be On The Look Out Villagers
The following report was posted to the Goldsithney Facebook group last night. Be aware!
"Just came in from a bike ride and spotted someone tucked in behind the wall/car of a cottage 3rd or 4th one down at the top of the village (on the left as you enter from St Hilary).
Waited down the road for a bit to see what he was up to then saw him duck in behind the shop. Went up to see what he was up to and confront him. Can't prove he was doing anything but he claims he's from PZ on his way home from work but then said he doesn't work? Claimed he was not up to anything.
Anyway long story short, I threatened to phone my 'colleagues' and said it's best he moves on so followed him out to the roundabout to make sure he was gone!
Would suggest you check your cars/property in that area. One of you had your blind/curtains open where he was lurking, think he might of had a rucksack? But nothing when he left so might be worth checking your gardens.
He was about 30, 5'10, light coloured baseball cap, black balaclava with open face, jogging bottoms, dark top, unshaven and didn't have a local accent, riding a grey hybrid/MTB with rear mudguard."
Please be vigilant everyone. Feel free to report anything like this to our own Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/perranuthnoe/ Or report it via the contact page on our village website. It's good to be an observant citizen and take action. We all benefit.
Stay safe.
